Anti Fade Records is very excited to announce the debut solo release from longstanding and influential Melbourne songwriter, Tom Ridgewell billed under the moniker, TB Ridge As The Director.
Over the last decade, Tom has been responsible for bringing us the assortments of local favourites Constant Mongrel, Woollen Kits and Calamari Girls. TB Ridge has now taken a step back from the live band, and into the director’s chair.
Inspired by a realisation that although he can play other genres of music, nothing comes as satisfying or naturally as playing classic rock ’n’ roll music. It’s not done in your typical old rock ’n’ roll fashion though. The songs are built around repetition and layering, with the core of each essentially being a loop and features some outside-the-box instruments and effects. i.e. autotune and strings. And even though he sings about a humorous distaste for drum machines and synth’s, they’re featured all over the release!
This collection of five songs were written and recorded by Tom at home with a little help from Garageband, a drum machine and a trusty iRig interface and iPad. Stylistic references may be closest directed towards the sound of a mid career Lou Reed, but inspirations have drawn from the likes of The Runaways, Spacemen 3, and Eno.
TB Ridge As The Director is the first solo release for Tom and it will be out on all digital platforms and as a limited cassette (and t-shirt bundle) from November 20 on Anti Fade Records.
